Yes. Maybe someone on the Patriots side did mess with the inflation. But so too, things clearly against the rules happen in every game, and are not called. Keeping this going undermines the public perception of the game, and to what end?

No one is suggesting that infractions not be called; but once a game is over, everybody ordinarily moves on.

Possible, but very difficult to prove.
The NFL uses an inexpensive and not particularly accurate gauge to test the game balls. Model CJ-01 (Pg 172)

Yes they ran a test where someone could let 'some' air out of each of the balls in one minute 40 sec.
But they do not tell us the pressure drop of each ball. http://online.wsj.com/public/resources/documents/Deflategate.pdf
