In Waco carnage, a message to America
CNN ^ | May 18, 2015 | Errol Louis, CNN Political Commentator

)—Even while the horrific details from the fatal gang battle in Waco, Texas, filter in, it's not too soon to ask: Is this who and what we have become as a nation? A place where a shootout between five heavily armed criminal gangs can unfold at a restaurant, in full view of law enforcement, leaving nine dead, 18 hospitalized and some 170 people arrested?

Law enforcement officers knew at least a week in advance that a horde of bikers was converging on the Twin Peaks restaurant, where the massacre took place, and stationed a dozen local and state officers on the scene -- including members of a SWAT team.

But that didn't stop the gangsters from clashing with knives, clubs, and guns. Police say the bikers fired at each other, and eventually at the officers who tried to stop the carnage.

Are Americans now so lawless that presence of law enforcement doesn't deter gunplay?

Innocent patrons and restaurant staffers hid inside a freezer, KWTX reported. It's a minor miracle that no cops, restaurant employees or diners were hurt or killed.

Twin Peaks held regular events called "bike nights." Concerned about the possibility of violence, Waco police had asked Twin Peaks to try to keep biker gangs away....

I wonder, will there be some bikes up for police auction now?

The dead are not even buried and CNN rushes to it’s gun control narrative.

these biker types need to turn their attention towards the real threats against America and our people , not engaging in this stupid in-fighting among one another . They look like little boys . Forget the drugs and crim activity . With all their attitude and scary tats they would be better served by evaluating what should really concern them . Since many are vets , they should know ...

Nine thugs dead; Scores more thrown in the clink; a scuzzy “breastaurant” loses its license; no innocent people hurt.

All in all, sounds like the “feel good” story of the week, as far as this Texan is concerned. Don’t care what this liberal-doofus jounalist thinks.

Very well said and perfect analysis of yesterday's dustup. Furthermore, there was no property damage, no looting, no rioting and mayhem of the type characteristic of Ferguson or Baltimore. It's more proof that an armed society is truly a polite society...especially in Texas.

“Haven’t you ever watched Sons of Anarchy...”

I blame Jemma. Jax hasn’t been right in the head since Tara was offed by a meat fork.

Sounds like we ought to hold more biker nights along with more Mohammed cartoon affairs.

We would end up with fewer violent bikers and fewer jihadis.

Now it’s the rule rather than the exception in many areas, though. Police are now handcuffed by PC.

#13 I bet these guys had been watching and wanted to be just like the show. In real life it ends with 9 dead.

Sure, Errol. What we need is gun control to stop outlaw biker gangs from having them. I’m surprised you waited until the middle of the piece to try to twist that into it.

This is the first Biker Gang incident I’ve heard about in years, while this type of carnage happens every weekend in Chicago, Detroit, Baltimore, New Orleans, Philadelphia

45 peeps shot in Shitago this past weekend. Black lives matter, somewhat.

Jay Patel, operator of the restaurant, put out a statement on Facebook expressing horror at the killings, but a law enforcement spokesman called it a "complete fabrication," pointing out that cops had gone so far as to appeal to Twin Peaks' national corporate headquarters to try and pull the plug on the gangs' gathering there.

Jay Patel, Operating Partner for the Waco Twin Peaks, so you are right.

Interesting new developments Restaurant Franchise Revoked

But if what the police are saying is true, I think they are as culpable as the owners of the franchise, and are now trying to cover their own behinds.

For the past 30 years, I’ve heard nothing but the narrative that people who ride cycles are lawyers, doctors, businessmen ect. Obviously, biker gangs still exist.

A lot of those who ride are doctors, lawyers and machinists etc.

If you aren’t smart enough to figure out that not all bikers are violent gang bangers, that’s your own problem.

There was a big biker brawl inside a casino in Reno some years ago with several shot a few years back. It doesn’t seem to be terribly common.

OK, I found this. I had not seen the Banditos.

Sunday's gunfight ended with nine people killed — all of them Bandidos or members of the Cossacks, a Texas-based rival biker gang.

1st I have heard of Cossacks? ...but then I'm not a Biker.

The 600 lb gorilla in the room is that someone shot first, the other side shot back. Barring them being the ones who started the dustup, we call that “self-defense” around here.
