Japan is hosting its first ever international defense industry trade exhibition and conference, further emphasizing the government’s sharp departure from a 70-year self-imposed ban on the export of defense-related equipment by Japanese firms as well as collaborations with foreign defense companies. […]

Firms from the United States are much in evidence, inevitable given Japan’s close security alliance with its Pacific partner, but a number of German companies are testing the waters of a new and potentially lucrative market. […]

Not all of Japan’s neighbors have welcomed what they claim is a return to the aggressive nationalism of the early decades of the last century. China and South Korea, in particular, have been vocal in their criticism of Japan’s increased military spending, although only the most extreme propagandist would claim that Tokyo is once again planning to invade mainland Asia and make it into a colony. …

On the bright side they won’t have to secretly ship technology by submarines.

Japan now realizes that they have to be in the position to defend their own territories, at a cost that will make China think twice about any folly on Japanese soil.

and they have to plan that they won’t be getting help from the “New America”.

Deutschland and Japan? This is very scary!

This could mean that the Emperor of Japan will finally get the Me 262! This must be stopped. Before you know it, those silk balloons with the firebombs will be sailing over Oregon again.

Japan wants America’s protection but can’t tolerate American bases on its soil. Can’t have it both ways...

The Japs with whom I have worked do not really acknowledge that WWII even happened, much less that they actually surrendered. Minor historical episode in the never-ending reign of the Son of the Sun God.

BTW, they think we are ugly and smelly. We are the disgusting which is every racial epithet you can think of, rolled into one.

Japan did get the Me 262 but built their own copy—too late to stop the B-29s —They are old friends, Germany and Japan, logical that they should help one another again. The Japanese could use some of the new German deep diver, silent U-boats to counter the Chinese Navy.

Never fails to amaze me that at the time of VJ Day, the Japs still had thousands of aircraft, millions of well-armed and supplied troops, and many naval elements poised to resist invasion. Even though they were short of food and fuel, they were determined to take down as many of us with them as possible.

It wasn't until we started frying them wholesale, and then using the nukes, that the Emperor contemplated surrender, even though much of his military did not. As it was, we left them, under allied orders, armed and in charge in Indochina, Korea, and few other places for quite a while.
