Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is disappointed with todays announcements related to new charges in the deaths of 21 dogs at an East Valley pet boarding business in 2014.
The owners of the Green Acre Boarding business in Gilbert have been indicted by a Maricopa County grand jury in the 2014 incident. Jesse Todd Hughes and Maleisa Maurine Hughes face animal cruelty and fraud charges.
The new charges came after Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery withdrew previous indictments against the owners as well as Austin and Logan Flake. Austin Flake is the son of U.S. Sen. Jeff Flake, and Logan is the Republican senators daughter-in-law.

Its who you know.
’As with every case this office prosecutes, this charging decision is based solely on an objective assessment of the facts and evidence without regard to impermissible influence,’ Montgomery said in a statement.”
Yeah, right.
Let me get this straight. The Flake couple, Austin and Logan, were responsible for the care of the dogs when they died. Logan’s parents own the business. While under the Flakes’ care the dogs died. The people with the name Flake walk. The parents are re-charged.
And you want me to believe that if the caretakers had a name like McCain - ooops, nope - like Reyes, let’s say, that you would have dropped the charges against the people who were supposed to be taking care of them? Riiiiiiiight. One of two things happened: Jeff “had a word”; the daughter rolled on Mom and Dad,
Discovery is going to be fun for the defense.
The Hughes and Flakes should be indicted. They shouldn’t run a lemonade stand. Did the victims het paid for their loss? Of course, they can’t replace dogs lost in a fire. When I was younger, I lost my dog in a fire, I replaced it, but it was not the same dog.
The DA Montgomery got Sheriff Joe ticked off as he is an ardent animal rights person. Not a smart move in AZ.
If he decides to run for another office Montgomery won’t get Sheriff Joe’s endorsement.
