What could be “politically inconvenient” about an engineer driving the train too fast? Does EVERYTHING have to be about politics????

HAHAHA. You’re funny. A politician capable of embarassment. Especially a Democrat one. HAHAHAHHAA

Use your imagination. A Muslim? Member of a protected class? Something went wrong that doesn't fit the rush to the microphones that more money is needed for infrastructure?

Your tin foil has it on too tight. Really. If the guy (gal?) was going too fact, he’s going down, whether he was black, white, Muslim, or whatever.

This is why all trains that run on the Northeast Corridor--including local commuter and freight trains that sometimes use the line--MUST include this feature called Positive Train Control (PTC).

Do you have a source for this information, especially one that indicates that those rules are in effect now as opposed to some future date?

PTC is the biggest boondoggle that came down the pike in a while. Billions and billions to be spent... all because some asshole in Chatsworth had to text message when he should have been paying attention to the signal indications.

You know it...

It's stuff like that that gets the Gubment agitated to 'do' something so they hire a bunch of 'expurts' that majored in Basket Weaving and Gender Studies and task them with whiting technical regulations to 'fix' the (usually improperly defined) problem.

And the hugh and series cry that will arise should this turn out to be operator error will empower the usual band of thieves to write more regulations, rewrite others, and pull from their nether orifice new interpretations of those regulations that they left unchanged.

But that's the Gubment way. After all, look at all the new regulations that have rolled downhill after a train crew up in Canada, eh, improperly tied down their train such that when the fire department was called in the middle of the night to douse a fire in the idling locomotive and they shut it down, there were not enough hand brakes set to hold the train after the air bled off, and gravity did its thing. As did several other natural laws brought to play in the ensuing moments like conservation of momentum, inertia, centrifugal force, and volatility, er I mean vapor pressure..

Operator error there too but that hasn't stopped them from regulating-to-excess to 'fix' it.. After all, new redesigned tank cars will ensure that the crew always will set sufficient hand brakes to hold the train.

But just think of the economic stimulus that forcing every tank car in the country to be replaced will create... ;-)
