It’s all fun and games until somebody gets thrown in jail for twenty years.

New York should come down on these guys like a ton of bricks.

You cannot protect rail systems by patrol. They are too big and too easy to sabotage. The only way to do it is by massive deterrence. Every criminal caught damaging the system must be used as an opportunity to demonstrate the huge penalties that will result from getting caught.

That means sixteen year olds thrown in jail until late middle age for the most trivial intentional damage. If you want to run a railroad, there is no other way.

The NYC MTA (Metropolitan Transit Authority) is run by a bunch of brain dead clowns. The service is abominable and getting worse, but the fares keep getting jacked up anyway. I was always late to a class I'm taking in Manhattan because the bus I had to take to get to the subway station (2 miles away) did not come every 7 minutes as posted on the sign, but more like every 30 minutes. And every third bus came with the "Not in Service" banner displayed. So I paid for a car service ($20/week) during the winter when my car was plowed in, and now I drive to the station, where it takes up to 25 minutes to find a parking spot in the surrounding congested neighborhood. They're doing work on the tracks since last week. Instead of getting home by 10:30 p.m., now I'm getting home an hour or more later. One lady actually lost it yesterday at the interminable ride on the subway and burst into tears.

I see groups of black teens on MTA buses and subways, clearly demonstrating that they have no clue as to what constitutes decent courteous behavior when they are out and about. They scream, play loud music on their cell phones, engage in pushing and shoving, etc. I guess I've been lucky so far in that I don't see them doing worse--yet.
