Rural Carver County Minnesota is definitely NOT Minneapolis. I’ve lived in both. I know.
My guess is the perps will be whites with a meth habit.
Less than 1000 people in San Francisco township. I’m definitely rural here and there are twice as many people in the township.

I was friends with the lady that ran the corner store near our cabin in Northern Minnesota. As a kid I would ride my bike up there to get candy. She’d yell at me to quit fingering the pieces before I bought them.
As I got older I would make sure to spend some money in her shop even though it was cheaper back in town. She’d yell at me for looking through the newspaper before I bought it.
She lived up there by herself for as long as I knew her. Little unit in the back of the store. Outhouse in the yard (pump water). Winters included.
At the age of 93 she was still running the store. Some Indians robbed her and killed her. I’m guessing she gave them some lip and tried to fight them off. She was a feisty gal.

Some rural people don’t lock their doors. That may be why there was no sign of forced entry.
From the headline, my first assumption was Zimbabwe.
I’m a bit surprised to see Minnesota as the locale.
I’m also curious to see who the perps turn out to be.
A coworker’s in-laws here in Silicon Valley don’t lock their doors. Been living in their house since the 60s. Nice peaceful little town, but we have our share of low-life coming in from Oakland and San Jose looking for easy pickings.
