Just mix a pyrethrum and water solution and spray it on your clothes. We do it for ticks at work, grandfather used the version called Raid ;-)

A local garden show said if you fill an old sock with sulfer , tie some string around it , and tap it on your legs and ankles occasionally , you won’t get bit . I haven’t tried it yet .

Chiggers like tight-fitting clothing, such as waistbands and sock tops.
Theoretically, then, working naked might reduce the number of bites. Wear a top-notch sunscreen, though.
