Ex-Girlfriend: GOP Gov. Candidate Should Take Lie Detector Test
Talking Points Memo ^ | May 7, 2015 | DANIEL STRAUSS

The ex-girlfriend of Kentucky Republican gubernatorial candidate James Comer wants him to take a lie detector test over her claims that he was physically abusive and took her to an abortion clinic.

On Monday, the Louisville Courier-Journal published allegations from Marilyn Thomas, Comer's ex-girlfriend from their time together at Western Kentucky University more than 20 year ago, based in part on a four-page letter she sent the paper in which she described how their relationship had been "toxic, abusive and caused me a lot of suffering." According to the paper, Thomas claimed Comer was physically and emotionally abused. The paper also recounted Thomas' claim that Comer assisted her in obtaining an abortion while they were dating

Comer has repeatedly denied the claims, and now Thomas is calling on him to take a lie detector test.

"Ask Jamie if he would consent to sitting in a room with me and taking a polygraph," Thomas told the Courier-Journal late Wednesday via electronic message.

This does make a great deal of sense to me. It is not the burden of the recipient of accusations to prove they aren't true - it is the burden of the accuser to prove that they are. She cannot control whether or not Mr. Comer submits to lie detector test, however, she can control whether or not she submits to one - so why doesn't she have the test with an impartial, reputable polygraph expert and if it shows she's telling the truth, the results will bolster her accusations. She can also produce the documented proof she claims exists of the abortion that she claims exists but has not submitted, and also explain why she would give him a gift of a book with a personalized inscription from the Senator she was working for 10 years after the alleged fact, which also does not make sense, but perhaps there is a plausible explanation for it...but thus far the only thing she has done is refute that she gave it to him in person vs. she mailed it to him - well why would you mail a gift to someone so evil and you never wanted in your life again all of those years later? Doesn't make sense to me, and she hasn't been asked to explain it.

I'm not calling her a liar...I'm not sure what to think about it...but this behavior seems entirely political in its messaging, not to mention its timing. If she's telling the truth, she is doing things to make her story seem suspicious and raising more questions than answers.

first line should be “This does NOT make a great deal of sense to me.”

That first post made perfect sense to me- in light of the topsy turvey society we live in.
It is now common place that the accused needs to be prove innocence instead of the accusser proving guilt.

even if she’s lying and he was telling the truth, he has lost simply by submitting himself to this test. Burden of proof should be on her

You misunderstood the article - the story is that she is merely challenging him to the test, not that he is submitting to one. You are correct, in this sense, however - if he submitted to it and he passed with flying colors, the spectacle created of him submitting to it would be the story at the time, and the passing of the same would almost be irrelevant - the damage is done. Hence, why this seems to be following an entirely political, rather than personal, pattern...in addition to the fact she appears to have not offered to take the test herself to bolster her accusations as true - that’s something she can control and doesn’t have to “challenge” anyone to do.

In my experience, in a couple of years she'll still try to "friend" him on Facebook and even ask him out for a few drinks.
