Sinkiang (“Xīnjiāng” in Pinyin) is majority Uyghur (Turkic and Muslim) to be sure, but has a sizable population of non-Muslim Hans too. The Muslim Hans (or Hui) are about 4½ percent of Sinkiang’s population, apparently; the highest percentage of Hui is reported in Ningsia (Ningxia) at 34 percent.
