Goes back way before Castro.

John Reed got a Pulitzer for his praise of the 1917 revolution and the subsequent formation of the Soviet Union.

Before that, a certain Karl Marx was a foreign correspondent for one of The Times predecessors.

Agreed totally. Silly me also forgot Walter Duranty and his complete falsehoods about Stalin and life in the Soviet Union in the 1920s and 1930s. He even won a Pulitzer Prize of his own for that garbage and I was quite taken aback when it was decided a few years ago that there was no complete justification in having that prize revoked (definitely it should have been, big time).
