I’ve never had a political encounter with a Russian.
Thanks for the reply.
I actually have. In the mid 90’s I was going back to school and took a carpenter job because they allowed me the flexible hours I needed. The owner of the construction business was an American citizen of Polish extraction. His crew was made up almost exclusively by Eastern European guys, including two Russians.
There were Poles, a Hungarian, several Czechs, two Romanians, and these two Russkies. There were language and some cultural barriers but we got beyond them pretty well, except for the Russkies - they were rude, crude, standoffish, and uncooperative. They HATED everyone and made sure that everyone knew it. None of the other guys would work with them and I never understood why the boss hired them but I was given the job of lead so I had the unenviable task of directing them.
I suppose that it was all an act but they impressed me as truly being dumber than hammered shiite. Their tools made the stock at Harbor Freight look top-flight. Their work was adequate - barely, but only if you kept a constant eye on them and kept them herded.
The closest thing to a political discussion I ever had with them was when they insisted on how superior Mother Russia was to the USA. They were gravely insulted when I asked if it was so great why did they leave? LOL
Needless to say, I’ve never been recruited. No one that I know has ever been recruited. You are correct that a Russian James Bond could certainly fool me but why would they bother with a little fishie like me?
The notion seems a bit preposterous to me.
