Prisons overflowing, crime in the streets, neighborhoods taken over. 4 generations of the "War on Drugs" and the problem is worse. Might it be time to conclude that we are doing something wrong? Does repeating the same action with no result equal stupidity? Portugal has had legal access to all drugs for 10 years. Apparently they have not been overrun by drug fueled psychopaths. Apparently their drug use statistics show lessening use of addictive drugs. Sometimes the facts transcend ideology and hit you upside the head like a timber axe. Read this and get smarter.

How about a new approach.

Exterminate all drug dealers On the spot. They care nothing about individuals or society.

Unfortunately, many otherwise “small government” types love to channel Anslinger when it comes to any discussion of drugs.

This is a fake title, the poster switched titles to get people to click on it.

The actual title is “The Likely Cause of Addiction Has Been Discovered, and It Is Not What You Think”.

I would suggest that we separate drug use from drug trafficking. Decriminalize the use and offer the treatment suggested in the article but become draconian with drug trafficking.

I think I understand this...

If you take drugs to make you happy, you won’t need drugs to make you happy.

Is that about the gist of it?

Well, the drug trade is not a government sponsored program like i the US. If the CIA had not aided and abetted the drug business for so long, it might have been stopped long ago.

medical users just stop,
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I had my knees replaced. The right one failed resulting in two more operations.

The first operation, I took the drugs as recommended by the doctor. The withdraw was a walk in hell for a week.

The next two operations I was smarter. I only took the pain medication if it was a level 3 or 4 or higher and 20 minutes before physical therapy. Result: No problem stopping the drugs.

De-Federalize the war on drugs and let the states decide. Honestly, I don’t care what individual states decide; I’m sure there will be a variety of interesting differences.

But that will never happen because the Feds need the war on drugs to keep their criminal extortion racket going. They make money on shaking down the money laundering banks, money on confiscation, keep their people employed with prosecutions, and some of the naughty boys do deliveries or get a cut to stay quiet.

The U.S. Federal government is the most heinous criminal organization in the world.

Yep legalize all drugs! Better than having the government decide whats best for me. Interfering with doctors and patients. Using property seizure laws to steel. War on drugs screwed up in so many ways.

The War of Addiction is waged inside the body, the mind, and the soul of the addict. The only person who can win this war is the addict, and his only ally is Jesus Christ.

The reason that the addict himself is the only one who can win his war of addiction is because he is the only one who is with himself all day, every day of his life. He must be the guardian of his own temple. He is the one who stands at the door. No one else can do this duty for any of us.

The reason that Jesus Christ is the only ally of the addict, is because addiction is a malady of the spirit. The addict engages in his addiction of choice because he believes the feeling he derives from the addiction of choice alleviates the pain felt in the spirit, but it doesn’t. It adds to it over time and destroys everything around the addict and the addict as well.

Jesus Christ is what fills our spirit with love. It is He who makes our weaknesses into our strengths. It is He who helps us stand when we have fallen. We find Jesus inside ourselves when we ask Him in.

If an addict truly wants to be free of the chains that bind him, the chains that he bound himself with, then he first prays to Jesus Christ and asks Him for His Love and Strength, then he unwraps the loops one by one, then he walks away, and he never returns to where he left them.

That is how a man beats his addiction. It is not a battle that a government can win or that a law can win. Only the addict can win.

The War on Drugs has never been anything but a war on individual liberty.

Unfortunately, this article subtracts from the total sum of human knowledge; it will make no one smarter.

Let's apply your 'logic' to other areas...homicide, for example. Since hundreds of years of criminalizing homicide has not eliminated it...in fact, recidivism is common...should we not decriminalize homicide, and help murderers 'connect?'
