My paternal ancestors came here legally from Scotland in the late 1700’s.
They immediately went to work in Kentucky and Tennessee illegally selling whiskey and guns to the indians.
By all accounts, they were some contrary buttholes.
My family came here before there were borders. At least none that the settlers came through.
But that doesn’t mean I would not welcome immigrants.
The difference is that in the distant past you came here either with the support of a sponsor (whether that be a relative or a “group.”) who took responsibility for you so that you did not become a burden on society.
Now, you can cross the border and sign up for goodies the first day. Now these might not be goodies that you and I would want, but they provide a lifestyle that is better than where these folks came from.
The democrats would have you believe that every conservative is anti immigration. They are wrong. We are support immigration. We are just sick of supporting immigrants.
My great grandfather came here in 1850 at the age of 8 with his older brothers, his father, and his stepmother to flee the potato famine in Ireland. They arrived in New Orleans which as I understand it, was cheaper than the boat to New York or even Canada. They must have worked their way up the Mississippi because they ended up in Missouri. His older brothers became teamsters working with the people traveling west along the Missouri River. He became a farmer in Pettis County. My brother was named after him. I was named after his wife. That was the way they did things in the old country.
What you say makes sense, but the Dems want votes, the Republicans want cheap labor, and the racist groups like La Raza want more ethnic power. Blacks think “anything that hurts Whitey is good” and “the more people of color in this country, the better,” so they won’t protest or do anything about it, even though they’re also hurt by illegal immigration. If Whites protest, they’re called racists and xenophobes, so they cower and crawl away, because they want to be “nice.”
And there you have it.
Dick,
This battle was lost in 1965; no point in crying over spilt milk. The only thing you really need remember is that a Nation without borders is a Homeland to no one.
LEAVE (INSERT SUBJECT) ALONE!!
Your ancestor may have been on Ellis island in 1854, but he wasn’t processed there. The immigration office on Ellis Island wasn’t open till the 1890s.
Borders, language, culture.
