Nixon might have won the state had he run on a conservative platform instead of as a mushy moderate, and had he chosen a solid conservative running mate such as Rep. Walter Judd (R-Minn.) instead of the RINO Boston Brahmin Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr.

I’m not altogether certain Nixon did lose Texas in ‘60. LBJ already established himself as a cheater, and I expect there was enough chicanery that he did steal the state.
