Naval Academy midshipmen, caught in Baltimore protests, direct families to safety

A patio chair smashed the sandwich shop window. Glass fell around Midshipman Brad Kadlubowski, seated before a window, at the Subway shop in Baltimore. Inside, a father steered his wife and two children to the back of the shop on Saturday. His son has asthma; the father worried about tear gas. Another chair smashed another window. Everyone to the back, the midshipmen instructed. Families and Naval Academy midshipmen had come for dinner before Saturday's Orioles game. Protests over the death of Freddie Gray began peacefully that day, but ended with confrontation. By Monday, the day of Gray's funeral, protests escalated with violence. At least seven officers were injured Monday afternoon and the Orioles game was postponed. Some midshipmen didn't know about the ongoing protests when they arrived Saturday in Baltimore. "I didn't realize it would be so close to Camden Yards," said Midshipman Madisen Grinnell, 18, of Sacramento, Calif., on Monday. - See more at: http://www.capitalgazette.com/news/ph-ac-cn-riots-0428-20150427,0,5977193.story#sthash.2LntjOUl.dpuf

They really need some heavily armed CCW folks just start taking out the violent protestors that come towards them.

I am talking hundreds of rounds. Just a whole belt full of magazines ready to go. And take down 30-40 folks until they get the message not to mess with the people there anymore.

People have the right to lethal defense against a mob. There are MULTIPLE disparity of force rules that apply to allow such an engagement. For anyone to say otherwise these are uncontrolled war zones with hundreds of angry protestors that will kill anyone who would defend themselves. You would be nuts NOT to be armed with multiple gun magazines and possibly multiple firearms. The police aren’t going to be able to protect you if you’re just sitting in a shop minding your own business and then this crap occurs. Keep shooting until they learn not to keep coming in through the smashed windows. It may tkae 40-50 dead bodies for these idiots to get a clue you’re not worth dying over.

Omigosh! My HS-aged grandson is supposed to be going there in June for a “summer seminar”. I think that it is an opportunity for him to check out the campus and program prior to application. It never occurred to me that Annapolis was any where near the riots.

Not to worry. Annapolis is maybe 50 miles SE of Baltimore, and there is no mass transit between.

It is great that our naval midshipmen are standing up to the Obamunists!

The USNA is 30 miles from downtown B-more (straight shot down I-97).

Similar to my idea I expressed to my wife. If they just fired a few bursts of m-60s, say 100 rds in total, my guess is the crowd would disburse very quickly. If well aimed, into the center of the mob, probably could take out 50 as some would go through more than one.

I am not anywhere there is going to be a mob so this is just commentary, but if a mob intent on destroying my home came up on my yard, they would need bulldozers and front end loaders to remove what would be left after they disbursed.

Thanks for the reassurance. It was just one of those worries that crosses a grandmother’s mind at 1 in the morning!

It’s actually closer, just a half hour ride. But certainly far enough to be OK. Ilive closer to town and you would not know anything is going on.

Your grandson will be fine. These midshipmen were visiting Baltimore from Annapolis. I am betting that your grandson’s group will not be allowed to roam into any questionable parts of Annapolis. And the Naval Academy is well guarded, especially since September 11.

Annapolis, our state capital, is a lovely town, which calls itself the “Sailing Capital of the World”. We visit there quite often, and we feel very safe. Will be visiting the first week of June for a garden tour.

I have 2 uncles who were Annapolis grads — both lost in WWII. So, I am thrilled that Benjamin has shown an interest in the Naval Academy, although his first choice is the AF Academy, I think. He’s currently a member of his HS Jr. NROTC program, with his main interest in computers. I think this summer program will be eyeopening as to the physical rigors necessary to compete!
