How about we cut some ‘gibsmedat’ programs and properly fund the military?

Fine. Let the problematic F-35 program get its act together to replace the F-16 fleet. The A-10’s have a need and are both economical and cost effective, and the A-10’s are the best “choice” to fulfill the combat role they are being tasked to.

Maybe send the retired Warthogs to Israel?

I’m certain they can use them.

Well, yeah. Drop the 35. It appears to be on the way to achieving white elephant status. It is billed as a jack of all trades and is apparently not excellent in any.

I just can’t imagine no F-16s. Truly a great versatile craft.

Let the Air Force brass spend 30 days on the ground, in the shit, so they can make an informed decision.

Give them to the Army, Navy, and Marine Corps. Take the money out of the Air Forces budget to pay for the transfer.

The Warthog is a most excellent flying cannon platform, able to operate in close support of ground troops, and can destroy most armored vehicles on the ground with a short burst of its Gatling machine gun, a “point and shoot” REAL assault weapon.

Besides, it can carry a pretty useful supply of air-to-ground missiles, great for breaking up motorized columns in convoy.

And it can hop in and out of short runways and under what would be extremely adverse conditions for most other aircraft. Also, it has almost unbelievable airworthiness even under serious damage, as it has multiple redundant air surface control mechanisms. Should the hydraulics fail for any reason, it can still cripple home with an underlying mechanical control system. There is even a crank-down for the landing gear, should it be needed.

Feed this beast. It is the right aerial assault weapon for close-in fighting.

“the A-10 retirement, which it says will save about $4.2 billion over the next four years”

A billion a year? In military terms, that’s zero with a rounding error.

Drop the 35. Keep the 16. Keep the A-10. Build more 22s.

Do it. The F-16 is fragile and they’ve already pretty much devoted it to ground strike.
