No forfeits. The games could be simply cancelled and not rescheduled unless/until their possible need at the end of the season to determine a playoff participant. They could also be played at some other ballpark, or played in Baltimore without a crowd. We’ll know soon enough.
Driving to work this morning I heard speculation that the baseball commissioner was thinking about have the game played at the Washington Nationals’ stadium since they are on a road trip this week.
They should have really stoked up the crowd at the last game telling them how the filth were torching and burning the city...And when they were good and mad they should have let them all go with a complimentary BALL BAT ...
They need to go ahead with the ball game, only make it a Bat Day.
A few years back Jim Leyland pulled the Tigers off the field in Toronto on opening day because someone threw a beer bottle at one of the outfielders. The game was on hold for 20 minutes while they settled the crowd down.
That NY football game was played in Detroit this winter.
Years ago Dave Parker was nearly killed by a 9-volt battery which was thrown from the 600 level of Three Rivers Stadium.
Although, I am an old enough fogey to have lived through a time in baseball when double-headers were not unusual. I remember there would be double-headers that were scheduled.
At the next home game the mayor will throw out the first pitch.
Hubby and I are fans of Turn. What would the Founders think of what we have done to the Country?
You don't need fans in the stands to play the game - they should be played and not cancelled.
Happens with European soccer all the time.
I have heard that possibility too. The Orioles and the Nats are suing each other over MASN TV revenue. I think the O’s are also suing MLB. I’m kind of surprised it isn’t bigger story, MLB does not want their books opened up in court. They might end up playing at Nats park, but the ownership despises each other.
Freegards
Leyland said his biggest fear was that one of his players would throw a bottle back.
A fan can get away with it but for a player its a potentially criminal career ender.
This is crazy idea but perhaps the Orioles should play at Ripken Stadium north of Baltimore near Aberdeen. It is minor league stadium but something different.
The Orioles should move to a city that has law and order. Perhaps Havana, Cuba.
Who in the world is going to want to head for that stadium for future games; hang around afterwards (or beforehand) to eat, shop, etc.?
Who would want to park their car in that neighborhood now?
I think attendance at those games is going to be racing towards zero...
After 9-11, when Shea Stadium was being used as the main staging area for rescue workers, the Mets seriously considered playing out the remainder of their home schedule at the minor league stadium in Brooklyn.
