Medicaid’s Tension: Getting Corporate Giants To Do Right By The Needy

HARTSVILLE, Tenn. — Lynda Douglas thought she had a deal with Tennessee. She would adopt and love a tiny, unwanted, profoundly disabled girl named Charla. The private insurance companies that run Tennessee’s Medicaid program would cover Charla’s health care.

Douglas doesn’t think the state and its contractors have held up their end. In recent years she says she has fought battle after battle to secure essential care to control Charla’s seizures, protect her from choking and tube-feed and medicate her multiple times a day.

Washington regulators are about to initiate the biggest overhaul of Medicaid managed-care rules in a decade. Prompted by growth of Medicaid outsourcing, concerns about access to care and stories like Charla Douglas, the regulations are expected to limit profits and set stricter requirements for care quality and the size of doctor networks.

You know, after letting some time pass and letting things soak in, I can't even be mad at Gruber, he was right, most Americans are stupid, or we wouldn't have wound up with Obozo, twice. What did people think that someone with Obozo's background meant when he stated that would "fundamentally transform" America?

Price controls...always lead to scarcity when the price allowed is less than the cost of the controlled item. The items simply disappear. Only a fool continues to produce at a loss.

We can see where this is heading.

All private sector bidders will conclude that this can’t be done profitably and withdraw. There will be a massive freak-out with media coverage of poor suckers losing coverage, and the long-awaited “public option” will be quickly assembled to step in and save the day.

All part of the plan.

Just to be clear ... ALL of Medicaid’s funding comes from the taxpayers at the federal and state levels.
