Twenty-five years ago, a police officer found a baby in a California dumpster. Last week, the baby – now a grown man – got to meet the man who saved him.

Robin Barton shares a bond like no other with retired Santa Ana police officer Michael Buelna.

"I hoped that someday I would see him again," Buelna said.

The two first met 25 years ago, though Barton was just 4 hours old, in what some would call a miracle encounter. It was Nov. 21, 1989. Buelna was on duty in Santa Ana.

Something NICE to hear this morning.

Sadly, Debbie Blabbermouth Schmuck would have been just fine if, four hours previously, the mom (who served only THREE YEARS for trying to murder her baby) would have hired an abortionist to kill the infant with a sharp instrument.

That’s an awesome story! I wish it could be encouraged to more mothers to carry their babies to term and allow the baby to be adopted. I know too many good couples that cannot have children (or simply want another) and would happily adopt.

Too Bad the RE-UNION of Robin Barton shares and retired Santa Ana police officer Michael Buelna, didn't take place at a Police Academy Graduation of Robin Barton .

Great story.

..and fitting charge against 'mom'.

The baby weighed just 4 pounds, 2 ounces. A sketch of his 19-year-old biological mother – later identified as Serena Diaz – went out. She was later arrested and charged with attempted murder.

Barton's biological mother was sentenced to three years in prison for child endangerment and attempted murder.

Barton said he is trying to find her because he says it will help provide some closure to meet her. He also wants to tell her he forgives her.

And then he forgives her. ...who needs that emotional baggage, good for him.

Sounds like a great family.

Your response:
He just did.

Wonderful observation! And, that public vow of forgiveness will echo for eternity.

One item from the article made me curious—it said his adoptive father is Daniel Fernandez. But his last name is Barton. How did that happen? Did they track down his biological father after they located the mother and make him use that name? I just thought it odd that he doesn’t use the last name of the people who adopted him.

Good question. There is no mention of the birth father or a search for the birth father, so I would assume he is completely out of the picture. It appears that the adoptive parents are still together. But maybe they aren’t and the mom remarried and Robin was adopted by the stepdad and given his name. Or perhaps he shortened his name for some reason. I can think of a former radio host in my area who had changed his last name because there was already someone going by that name in the industry.

Don’t you just love newspaper writers though? The baby, now a grown man... here I was thinking he was still a baby 26 years later. ;)
