Maybe the dad is sick or injured in la-la land. Kid also could’ve gotten around a lock, if the dad didn’t use a biometric lock.
I would imagine there’s a few ways around a locking mechanism. He also could’ve thought he locked it up, but didn’t.
My guess is that the father didn’t lock his cabinet at the time of the gun theft.
