More than half of some 770,000 soldiers are pessimistic about their future in the military and nearly as many are unhappy in their jobs, despite a six-year, $287 million campaign to make troops more optimistic and resilient, findings obtained by USA TODAY show.
Twelve months of data through early 2015 show that 403,564 soldiers, or 52 percent, scored badly in the area of optimism, agreeing with statements such as "I rarely count on good things happening to me." Forty-eight percent have little satisfaction in or commitment to their jobs.
The results stem from resiliency assessments that soldiers are required to take every year. In 2014, for the first time, the Army pulled data from those assessments to help commanders gauge the psychological and physical health of their troops.
The effort produced startlingly negative results. In addition to low optimism and job satisfaction, more than half reported poor nutrition and sleep, and only 14 percent said they are eating right and getting enough rest.

I remember sitting through this training when it first came out. Told my Colonel this was the stupidest thing I had ever heard. He agreed.

There are a little over half a million Active Duty personnel in the Army... If they had just given everyone a $500 bonus instead of throwing it away on an ‘optimism program’, I bet the troops would be a lot happier.
Well when was that ever the case?
The only "good" thing to ever happen was going on leave!
This is why the Left will never understand the military or the military mind.
We went to places that sucked and did things that sucked - and we knew it was all going to suck - but we went anyway... because somebody had to.

How does that compare with the civilian work force?
Soldiers understand a lack of leadership at the top. It flows downhill.
Fewer Christians.
releasing the worst terrorists back to the battlefield,
making a traitorous buddy-killing deserter into a hero,
making secret deals with the enemy who kills our soldiers,
having an imam chant muslim prayers over the remains of dead SEAL Team 6 helicopter victims,
cutting military benefits,
capping pay and riffing people and telling them they are going to get new good jobs changing light bulbs to fight global warming.
Great list - also humiliating or nonexistent VA care...long waits and excuses... better care given at GITMO for terrorists...
How many Vets who died of neglect by the VA would have been able to have treatment with the $287,000,000 spent on this “optimism” program. What a continuing crock of ....
Let’s not forget sgts and commanders digging through the barracks for any sign of sexism. Never ending SHARP training. (Don’t rape!) Constant nagging about anything remotely fun.
For young soldiers, the army is now like living with your super puritanical aunt.
Clearly, what is needed are most mandatory transgender sensitivity sessions.
Now, the DI might tell the recruits, you were there for two purposes: to accept diversity, and to provide meals on wheels.
Our enemies are laughing at us, because they don't fear us.
Of course morale is low.
