I thought the FBI was a domestic investigative agency (as in: “within the borders of the US”).
This ISIS camp needs to be dealt with, but why task them with it?
Of course, if the FBI promises to go “Full Branch Davidian” on their a$$es, I could be convinced to change my mind
The FBI is allowed, by law, to have liaison offices in foreign countries, usually attached to either the embassy or with foreign police departments. They concentrate on child/sex trafficking, drug smuggling, arms smuggling, copyright issues/theft, terrorism (task forces), and work with Interpol.
This has been going on since at least WW2, and was a very successful tactic in the Hemisphere-wide “preemptive buying” program of the US (US Commercial Corporation) to deny the Germans and Japanese raw materials (mainly metallic ores and rubber) for their war machines.
You can see a little of this operation in “The FBI Story” with Jimmie Stewart, where he is watching Axis operations in Argentina.
I don’t know who good the FBI is today, as the last two heads of it (Comy and Freeh) left me having grave doubts about their ability to understand some of the threats to America (I was a former undercover operative and worked with both the FBI and Congress against domestic radicals/terrorists and Soviet/Communist Party fronts, including the Hanoi Lobby. The agents I worked with were first-rate and understood the threats to our country. As it turned out, some of my friends turned out to be the heads of the top counter-intelligence agencies/operations within the FBI that penetrated deeply into the heart of the Kremlin - See John Barron’s book, “Operation SOLO” for a tremendously successful FBI penetration operation. John was a friend, and the head agent was a luncheon group acquaintance).
Hope this helps to explain some of the duties of the FBI. I fear that under Holder the Racist, the Bureau has been greatly compromised in their duties, skills, and enemy targeting.
