could have used any kind of lamp for that purpose.
They could have used a lamp resembling the type historically depicted as being used to light the Church belfry prior to Paul Revere's ride. They could have used a torch modeled after the torch of Liberty. They could have used any number of light sources that have meaning to AMERICANS.
They CHOSE not to.
I'm sure they had their "reasons"...
