It is disgusting how these do-gooder commies have ruined our former systems of caring for the disadvantaged. All in the name of “compassion”; i.e., hand-wringing about how they are perceived being in “institutions” or that they must “be free”.
Mental institutions, handicap institutions, even orphanages.

I agree. It always amazes me how much influence popular culture has in dictating public policy. Publishing Silent Spring and releasing One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest did more harm to this country and the world than all the wars since WWII.
Yes, there were abuses, but these liberal, “humane” policies have killed more people than the old systems and have harmed all of the people involved. The monetary cost has risen exponentially and the cost to society has been immeasurable.
