Governor Gilmore is a good man and governed as a solid conservative. I had the opportunity to meet with him personally once at his house and he is a very humble man in person and came from a working class family and has a fairly impressive backstory of accomplishment but I honestly don't think he has a chance, I'd be lying if I suggested otherwise. He is too much like Calvin Coolidge in demeanor I believe to strike a chord nationally.

Who? Has he been on Fox, CNN, or otherwise seen on the telly? Has he been on the radio, perhaps? Is he from a famous family as was Romney? If ‘No’ to all questions, then he has got a whole lot of dust to kick up before he gets sufficient amounts of attention. If not this go round, there is always 2020 with better hindsight.
Does he have stage presence and gravitas? It always helps to have an authoritative manner of speaking.

Someone needs to tell former governors that, just because you served a term or two as governor of a state and didn’t get indicted, convicted, or imprisoned, does not mean that you have to run for President.
To: lee martell
Ah,so what.
Pat Paulsen and Harold Stassen come to mind.

He didn’t run for reelection only because Virginia doesn’t let you.

He can get on the early debate stage next to Santorum, Trump, Smith, Jones, etc.
==
He announced April 26, 2007 he was running for president. He withdrew on July 14, 2007. He managed to raise just under $175,000.

He "ran" in 2008, and got nowhere, dropping out before any of the primaries.

I've met Gilmore a couple of times and I think your assessment of him is perfect. He simply doesn't have the personality needed to gain any traction.

He didnt run for reelection only because Virginia doesnt let you. It wouldn't have mattered, he couldn't have won against Warner in 2001.

2008 is Ice Age in politics. That simply means he presents as a blank slate. He may need to let voters know how his actions since 2008 have in any way prepared him for this new goal. Jeb Bush has the same problem, and he comes from a Presidential Family.

I’m glad Ronald Reagan didn’t listen to that logic.

I think he could’ve. He was very popular at the time. The problem though is Warner is just a lying son of a bitch and its hard to win against those types.

I don’t see him having any more money this time. I do think he should try again for the Senate or maybe a House Seat.

I like Gilmore.. He was a fine governor here in VA.. he pledged to get rid of the personal property tax and was more than 50% there.. but then came Mark Warner.
Gilmore helped steer this part of the country through the craziness after 9/11...
Problem is, Gilmore tried running before and never garnered any substantial support.

I hope he does not run. We still have the car tax he ran on getting rid of. If you are going to run on giving away somebody else’s tax rvenue (counties) then you better have a plan for the state to replace it.
Good man, bad politician.
