Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on Thursday accused left-leaning reporters and editors of practicing a new brand of yellow journalism in the form of fact check articles, which he said purport to catch politicians stretching the truth, but instead tend to advance the Democratic agenda.
Cruz, who is running for president in 2016, sat down with CNBC for an interview, and was asked about his joke that the U.S. should send 125,000 IRS agents to the border. CNBC reporter John Harwood host pointed out that there are only 25,000 IRS agents, and the rest are just IRS workers.
Harwood also asked why people should trust Cruz when he says Obamacare is killing jobs, when the U.S. has been adding jobs at a very healthy clip.
Cruz replied by saying the IRS line is one he uses as a joke on the campaign trail, and said left-leaning reporters have been reduced to fact checking jokes he makes.
There is a game that is played by left-wing editorial writers, Cruz said. Its this new species of yellow journalism called PolitiFact. Colloquially I was referring to all the employees as agents.
That particular stat is in a joke I used, he added. So, theyre literally fact-checking a joke. I say that explicitly tongue in cheek.

They don’t understand Cruz’s humor as they have none themselves.
I like Cruz’ humor....and his idea. Screw the filthy left.
Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead Captain Cruz!
I like Cruz more and more.
The article was by Jason Noble, recently fired by the Kansas City Star for sloppy reporting on a member of the Missouri Legislature.
The liberal cat doesn't change his spots.
Someone ought to fact check that putz Harwood for saying “the U.S. has been adding jobs at a very healthy clip.
Obama says the moon is made of green cheese and Harwood would preach it as the gospel; and fact checking be damned.
Cruz missile hit its target. BOOM!
His line about, “Imagine you are an illegal crossing the border and the first thing you see is 90,000 IRS agents! I think you’d turn around and run!” I thought it was hilarious, but obviously it went over the heads of some in the media.
Imagine you are an illegal crossing the border and the first thing you see is 25,000 IRS agents and 100,000 non-enforcement employees of the IRS!
Doesn’t quite have the same ring to it.
But hey - Cruz only says 90,000. He still wants 35,000 IRS people? The liar. That still is a lot of money ($60,000 average salary, health benefits, pension, mileage, still need to pay for office space, etc.)
How can we trust anybody if even Cruz is going to deceive us. Just one more big-government power hungry grabber.
And that whole thing about filling out your taxes on a postcard! My taxes are nobody’s business, and will STILL go into a sealed envelope. Postcards!? I guess the NSA isn’t good enough for Cruz.
And how am I supposed to pay my taxes with a postcard? He probably wants it all done on the computer. That’s the last thing I need is to be giving my bank account to the Federal Government. And over the internet no less, where anyone in the world can see it. I bet Cruz is part of one of those “One world order guys”
I need to talk more about about the whole thing with his dad coming over with $100 sewn into his underwear. But I need to go take my medications.

“I say, I say, its a joke son.” (”Nice reporter, but about as sharp as a sack of wet mice.”)
It would be especially nice if Factcheck’s Joe Miller and Jess what’sherface (Hennig?) landed in jail for lying about Obama’s short-form COLB. And Savannah Guthrie too, for ling about the long-form... The “fact checkers” are part of the deception, and it’s basically warfare against the US Constitution.
I respect Cruz and Paul for giving the Lefty media, hell, although, it would not surprise me that Ted makes these remarks in part to take some heat off of Rand Paul, for supposedly being cranky with the cantankerous Lefty girl cuties pretending to be “journalists”, for editorializing and talking over him.
That would be so like Ted to defend Rand in this way, since someone needs to hit back at the attack media, and really by ALL the contenders— not just Rand and Ted.
Rock on Ted.
This is all part of the attempt to marginalize Cruz., and Paul, and Walker, and whoever is next to announce.
The media will slobber over Bush, or whomever they perceive as being beatable by the democRAT, then turn on them once the general election begins. Like they did with McCain. He was their favorite “maverick” until he was the nominee. Then poof.... the love affair ends.
We’ll see how it works out for Cruz. I like him, but I expect him to be marginalized pretty quickly. Once he’s been cast into the dustbin of history (in the mind of the media) they will then ignore him. He simply will not be able to gain any traction in the preferred narrative no matter what he does.
Follow any of the alleged fact check sites: factcheck, politifact, Snopes etc., for even a little while and you will easily see that they are left wing spinners in a weakly designed disguise.
Someone ought to fact check that putz Harwood for saying the U.S. has been adding jobs at a very healthy clip.
Ted Cruz did an admirable job responding to that liberal myth of healthy job growth in the second part of his answer. Cruz rarely lets a false premise go unchallenged in questions posed to him by hostile media while maintaining his composure. The full transcript of his answer is below:
Harwood: Youve said a few things that dont necessarily comport with the facts, like, 125,000 I.R.S. agents, send em to the border. Theyve only got 25,000 agents or something like. Youve talked about the job-killing nature of Obamacare. Were adding jobs at a very healthy clip right now. Why shouldnt somebody listen to you and say, The guyll just say anything doesnt have to be true?Cruz: There is a game that is played by left-wing editorial writers. Its this new species of yellow journalism called politi-fact. Colloquially I was referring to all the employees as agents.
That particular stat is in a joke I used. So, theyre literally fact-checking a joke. I say that explicitly tongue in cheek.
The second point is more significant. You talked about the job creation that has occurred. The simple reality is millions of Americans are hurting right now under the Obama economy. Yes, some jobs are being created, but not nearly as many have been destroyed. The rich, the top 1% today earn a higher share of our income than any year since 1928.
Big business does great with big government. It gets in bed with big government. Median wages have stagnated. So, if youre a single mom waiting tables, if youre a teenage immigrant washing dishes like my dad was when he came from Cuba to America, your life under the Obama economy has gotten harder and harder and harder.
Love The Cruz!
Did anyone fact check anything Obama said when running for office? No.
Did Obama have any accomplishments by the time he was elected president? No.
Had Obama done absolutely anything by the time he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize? No.
This guy Harwood can kiss my ass!
