Two-thirds or more of the parents which she visited accepted her visits only because they wanted to keep the government check coming. They had no time to do simple things with the kids which actually helped them such as reading them books, helping them with homework or even something as simple as tossing a Frisbee back and forth at the local park.
They had no money to buy them such inexpensive things as books or crafts. But they all had at least two or three big screen TVs in the house which were constantly blaring plus the latest X-Box, Play Station or equivalent. Yep - I know that situation all too well. A young female has 3 kids from 3 different men, the oldest child is 5 and has Down’s Syndrome. She gets approx. $700 a month because of this. She doesn’t work, hasn’t ever worked, just lives off of the check and whatever other kinds of freebies she can get from the state. On the other side of this, doesn’t work with him, doesn’t even read to him, no special occupational therapy, nothing. And feels absolutely no shame in it. It’s disgraceful.
