Muslim faqir puts knife into his eye during religious procession

Hundreds of faqirs – Muslim ascetics who have taken vows of poverty and worship – walked to Ajmer Sharif in New Delhi to assist in the annual Urs festival, which commemorates the Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti.
One Sufi devotee went to extreme lengths to demonstrate his devotion, sticking a knife behind each eyeball.
Worshippers at events such as this are known for performing extreme acts.

Sufis are harmless Muslim mystics who occasionally do weird stuff like this.
Radicals like ISIS and Al Qaeda usually repress them.

Sufis are the least troublesome (and the weirdest) Muslim sect. I believe the dervishes are of Sufi origin. Note in the article that they honor “saints”, too - very strange. I wonder how closely they follow Shari’a law?
