A tragic story.

But, sheesh, hasn't everyone, by the 5th grade, learned about the dangers of carbon monoxide?

Clearly, Maryland needs to pass stricter CO Control Laws.

What part of don't run a gen set indoors didn't this fellow understand?

A very sad story, I've even wondered if this was some terrible murder suicide impulse.

Authorities would not confirm any information about possible carbon monoxide poisoning, but Princess Anne police Chief Scott Keller told The AP that there was no foul play and that a generator with no gasoline was found in the kitchen.

That was the literally fatal mistake; running a gas powered generator indoors.

You have to see the comments in social media blaming the utility company.

I thought everyone knew they go OUTSIDE. We have one for our boat and we set it outside on the deck when it’s in use.

The evil utility company will get the blame.

I’m guessing he had the generator IN THE HOUSE. If he lived in a bad neighborhood, I could understand why he would have done that. However, it’s better to have the generator outside - and just pull the plug through a barely open window.

I wonder if the man’s family will sue the electric company for not working it out - BECAUSE OF ALL THE CHILDREN. If it was just adults; then you can act different .. but NOT WITH CHILDREN WHO HAVE NO CONTROL OVER THE FINANCES OF THE HOUSE.

back in the late 90s, my husband and i could have died of Carbon Monoxide poisoning... Christmas morning... about 4:00 our Carbon Monoxide detector went off and woke us up... called the fire department... stayed in a hotel that morning... we bought our detector about 10 months before because i kept hearing the advertisements on the Rush Limbaugh show...

Sad. The guy was trying to support his kids, had a job, etc. Too often in those communities, there is no father. This guy was trying.

But even hardworking people can lack commonsense.

I suspect that there will be criticism of the power utility for shutting off the power to the house, and will be leveraged as another example of racism, when in fact, it doesn’t make any difference what color you are.

You don’t pay, eventually it gets shut off.

RE :”A single dad and his seven children were found dead in their one-story home, relatives said, and though officials gave no details on the cause of the deaths, the man's stepfather said he had been trying to keep the family warm with a generator after the power was cut because of an outstanding bill.
Lloyd Edwards told The Associated Press that his stepson, 36-year-old Rodney Todd, had bought the generator after the power was shut off to the home in Princess Anne, about 60 miles southeast of Annapolis on Maryland's Eastern Shore. He said those who died were Todd and Todd's two sons and five daughters.”

A gasoline powered generator and no Carbon monoxide (CO) detector.

Amazing that not one of them suspected something was wrong before they collapsed and passed out.

Couldn’t pay his electric bill; so he went out and purchased a generator?

The generator was less expensive than the electric bill?

I have a hard time understanding how buying a generator and keeping it fueled is cheaper than just paying off the electric bill.

A tragic situation for sure, but I commend the young man who took care of his step children to the best of his ability. I didn’t see anywhere in the article what may have become of mama. Did she abandon them or did she pass away?
