The Obama elections were a mirror aimed at the US people. I think we should do something about our ugliness.
The Oath of Office:
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.
When an avowed enemy of the United States is possibly going to assume the office of the President, it is the obligation of the sitting President to uphold that oath.
Agreed.
What you forget is that tens of millions who did not vote in 2014 would gladly give Obama a third term in 2016 if it were allowed.
Excellent point, a good reason I never warmed to Cheney the way most on our forum did
Probably GWB and Cheney knew that the only ones who would listen to any warnings they might give were already voting against Obama.
The people for Obama don’t believe in real sin: they just call sin “Republicanism.”
Probably GWB and Cheney knew that the only ones who would listen to any warnings they might give were already voting against Obama.
That’s a good point.
But they could have done things to expose him and undermine him.
The media is also to blame. I hope they pay for the damage they’ve done to our country.
Oh wow.
Just oh wow...
Very true. Our society and America in general has turned away from God, and the true visage of our ugliness and sin is horrific. Obama is our symptom, and our judgment.
One consideration that has proved useful for my understanding is the original sin; baldly put this means our souls, originally created upright, all rebelled in unison against God before we were conceived. We aren’t the “innocents” we think. That said, neither is God arbitrarily refusing anyone an opportunity at redemption; His spirit contends and if anyone begins to yield, God follows up without fail.
The thing that is more surprising here is beauty. Ever since Eve cozied up with the serpent, Adam followed, and Cain slew Abel over a petty jealousy, recorded humanity has been ugly.
Inglis v. Trustees (1830) and Elk v. Wilkins (1884), the Supreme Court ruled that a child born on U.S. soil, of a father who owes allegiance to a sovereignty other than the United States, is not a U.S. citizen at birth; the citizenship of such a child is that of its father, not its place of birth [20]. Consequently, the U.S.-born child of a foreign-citizen father cannot be a natural born citizen [41].
Thus, the modern-day consensus opinion (that birthplace alone confers natural born citizenship), though widely held, appears to be an assumption, not settled law or established fact.
If what you feel we need is a totalitarian “outgoing (p)resident” who will be a bit more Josef Stalin and a bit less Ronald Reagan about his successor; your man is in the White House now.
You have it wrong. Bush could have done things which were perfectly legal to prevent a Totalitarian/Communist/ America hating/Evil man who is doing his best to ruin America from gaining the presidency.
Threats of the magnitude that Obama presented required extraordinary action.
Anyway, now we must choose a president that will have one rough time dealing with the disaster.
I remember now how deeply despised Ronald Reagan has been for not doing something to stop Bill Clinton...
I don’t remember that at all because it didn’t happen. In the first place, Bush 41 followed Reagan.
The only blame I remember went to Ross Perot.
Yes. I was going for “hyperbolic” Of course Reagan couldn’t have had Clinton whacked; he couldn’t see into the future.
Neither could W. see what Obama would do.
I believe George W. Bush has handled his post-presidency with great dignity. Your mileage may vary.
Agreed that our next president has a tough row to hoe...
I am still flabbergasted / deeply amused by your insistence that GWB failed somehow to adequately “defend” us from Obama. There was literally nothing to be done.
Idiots selected Obama as Bush’s successor. What EXACTLY would you have had him do?
I’ve said my piece and you’ve said yours. We’re going nowhere with bickering back and forth.
The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the presidency. It will be easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to an electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails us. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president.
Translated into English from an article appearing in the Czech Republic as published in the Prager Zeitung of 28 April 2010
As I believe was already stated to you, Vice President George Herbert Walker Bush succeeded Ronald Reagan, and then lost to Clinton. when Clinton came on the scene, Reagan was already in the early stages of Alzheimer's dementia.
