Excellent point.
[[Egypt will do an unprovoked attack on Israel? Why?]]
The wealth that will be discovered under Israel- There is some evidence Israel may be sittign on a massive field of oil and gas-
The United Arab Front sounds way too much like the alliance described in Psalm 83.
Ayep. Today Israel and Egypt have shared interests, and General al-Sisi seems like a pragmatic man. Grudging cooperation beats cold war.
I don’t think the rabble chanting “To Jerusalem we go, martyrs in the millions” back in 2011 was really thinking about the dam. They weren’t all MB or Salafi by a long shot, and they didn’t suddenly change their minds.
Iran’s apocalyptic worldview is not based on practicality either.
I think the Egyptians are more likely to spank the Gazans who have been fomenting trouble on the border with Egypt for a long time. Tunnels, weapons shipments etc.
I would look forward to such an incursion and I’m sure the Israelis would get a good chuckle out of it....
Egypt is about to jump in to Yemen with both feet. That’s going to be a tougher nut than anybody expects. I think Saudi Arabia & Egypt will be tied down there for a decade unless Iran withdraws all support for the Shia rebels.
There is prosperity in Arab nations not being antagonistic toward Israel.
Egypt is still very poor but has potential if they can find peace. Jordan was very poor but has a fast growing economy.
After all, as a former member of the Israeli government and now not a part of it, there's a good chance he's one of the folks who worked with the US to unseat Netanyahu and is continuing to do so. Now that the elections are over, what better than a false threat from Egypt to scream at Netanyahu about for not responding to or for cooperating with the Egyptians in spite of the threat?.
A hypothetical Egyptian threat is the perfect tool to create a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" with.
Damn Netanyahu for being too close to Egypt to see it or damn Netanyahu for not admitting the danger exists.
JMHo
UTTER BS is more like it. Egypt just let Israel enter their airspace in connection with Israel’s recent bombing run on a weapons depot in Libya earmarked for Hamas.
Bible prophecy ping
This means what?
Calling BS on this one. El-Sisi is involved in too much positive stuff to want to put any of it at risk in a war with Israel.
Ditto the BS. Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the southern Arabs are in fear of Iran and have mutual interests with Israel.
Forgot that the trouble against Israel in the Middle East was started by Egypt?
I’ve said this to other posters: The majority of people in Tahrir Square in 2011 who were chanting “To Jerusalem we go, martyrs in the millions” were not Muslim Brotherhood or Salafist.
Letting little tidbits like this escape might keep assassins at bay. As for using a defector, it might be a case of “ do us this favor and we won’t kill your family that is still in our country.”
Nasser’s dream was to unite all Arab countries into one.
Correct. And that also meant no Israel.
The “Palestinians” still go on about “Arab unity”, and the phrase “Arab unity” is still in Egypt’s new constitution.
Egypt has more to gain from an alliance with Israel than it does with an alliance with anyone else in the region.
Israel is stable. It’s a neighbor that can be counted on to be rational.
Egypt closes the Gaza entry points on it’s own because it too fears the idiotic Arabs on the West Bank and Gaza. Why would it want the Arabs to take over Israel? The Arabs on that land would turn on Egypt in about five minutes.
It would become a major thorn in Egypt’s side.
Never underestimate the fanaticism of the idea of “Arab unity”. It’s in Egypt’s constitution still.
