Army sued over plan to put women on front lines of combat

Two lawsuits have been filed seeking information about the U.S. military’s plan to use women to “close with and kill” the enemy, based on reports that suggest having women in “tip of the spear” fighting units such as the Rangers and the Navy SEALs may be counterproductive.

The Obama administration announced two years ago it would make female military personnel eligible for assignment to direct ground combat units, including the infantry, beginning in January 2016. Under the military’s structure, women would be ordered into such positions.

Various military agencies and units since then have been analyzing the safety and effectiveness of the strategy along with the Center for Military Readiness, an independent group.

Lawyers with the Thomas More Law Center have submitted a number of Freedom of Information Act requests for details on behalf of CMR and its president, Elaine Donnelly, without effect.

So the law team announced it has filed a FOIA lawsuit against the U.S. Special Operations Command in federal court in the Eastern District of Michigan and a second against the Army in federal court in Washington.

Both are on behalf of Donnelly and seek records “related to the effectiveness of women in direct combat roles.”

Since founding CMR in 1993, Donnelly has researched and reported on social policy in military service. She recently has worked with Erin Mersino, senior trial counsel for Thomas More, on the information requests.

“Adherence to the FOIA is crucial because it allows the public access to our government,” Mersino said. “The documents we requested under FOIA are time sensitive. Permanent decisions regarding women in the infantry are projected to be made as soon as January 2016. The public should be informed of such important matters that directly affect our national security.”

Yeah, I know those are Marines in the picture.

Snip:
A Marine study showed for every man who fails a simulated artillery lift-and-carry test, 28 women fail. And for a test simulating moving over a seven-foot high wall, less than 1.2 percent of the men could not get over, compared to 21.32 percent of women.

The results were found in Marine Corps documentation by the Center for Military Readiness, which earlier issued a report called “U.S. Marine Corps Research Findings: Where is the Case for Co-Ed Ground Combat?”

A separate report from Israel National News reported a book, “Lochamot Betzahal,” confirmed the results of 13 years of research on female participation in IDF combat units and declared the feminist experiment in the Israeli military a failure.

I have never served in the military.

The decision to put women in the “front lines” is abysmally stupid.

What we need to do is highlight these things and then start rumors that a draft is returning. This draft will include women and there will be no college deferments this time.

The only thing stupider is that the permanent political class is even “studying” the subject.

First we should try unisex Olympic tryouts - no more separate slots for men and women, just the best performers.

If we still need to shoehorn women into frontline combat, lets find a way to remove sex complications, (like gender unassignment surgery) to remove the potential for broken marriages, favoritism from fratenization, and all the other sloppy sexual relationship and competition issues arising from mixed gender sleepovers for months at a time.

I don't see how a military draft could be consodered Constitutional. Is it a form of "involuntary servitude", is it not? According to the 13th Amendment, the only form of involuntary servitude that is allowed in the US is jail/prison.

Oh my young Padawan; the force is weak within you son. Right from the beginning of this great experiment known as the United States of America; all men between the age of 18 and 45 were and still are considered part of a standing militia.

What has happened along the way was what we know of our standing Military funded by the federal government. Militia's still exist all over this great nation and thank God they do because one never knows when a tyrannical government might corrupt the military or any of the other armed federal forces.

This brings us to the 2nd Amendment. Probably the most important right we have because this one right protects all the others.

You sound either young, naive, or both. I hope this small history and civic lesson prompts you to learn more about both your rights and responsibilities. Being an American has both.

It is. They’d cite precedent of the Militia being able bodied males 18-42 and go from there.

They’ll use the Constitution when it suits them. There is historical precedent. In the past people’s patriotism had them volunteering. Of course we weren’t fighting for corporations, new world order depopulationists, in foreign lands that weren’t invading us or pirating us on the high seas.

From what I understand, the IDF women serve in support roles, not in front lines.

Ahhhhhhhhh...but you seem to forget that was before the 13th Amendment was ratified (1865), correct? These days, we choose to join the Military out of patriotism & love of country or as a career or all 3 (OK...& the life-time benefits don't hurt, either), & we are not forced to do it except in times of war when actually declared by Congress. You may be young or naive (I'm 52 & enjoyed reading The Federalist Papers & other works of the Founders before my vision went bad) but let me remind you that the 2nd Amendment respects individuals, whose rights come from God, regardless of whether they are in the Military or not.

BTW...Mr. Rogers gave me better history lessons back when I was a kid. Don't forget: practice makes perfect.

only in america, in our current culture, could there be a clamor for woman to be allowed the same combat opportunities as men, and nor hear a peep about also requiring them to register for selective service.
