Newsday is using the word “people” to describe those partaking of and instigating what amounts to a riot.

I beg to differ. All “people” don’t engage in such activities, and actually possess impulse control.

So much for accuracy in reporting. (sigh)

The term “people” tells you or should tell you everything you need to know as to who the participants were.
