> It also raised menu prices 21 percent. The famous Fish ‘n Chips will run you $20.60 and the Wild Alaska Halibut is now $43.50. The restaurant also wrote on the menu, “Tipping is no longer necessary…we have changed the way we pay our employees.”

I love it. Watch the employees bitch and moan about not being able to be tipped because they get paid $15 an hour now. I bet they end up making less per hour than if they just kept their mouths shut. They will learn a lesson about capitalism the hard way...

If they were already netting more than $15 an hour, why did anyone want to raise the minimum wage for them?

The real beauty is that most of their tips were under the radar, but now the government sees all of that income and will gladly take half of it.

I would never be able to eat out if I lived there-at the only 2 candlelit, romantic restaurants out here the most expensive entrée on the menu isn’t much higher than $20.00-the best from their very nice wine list is not much more than the cost of that Alkaskan Halibut-but the wait staff doesn’t make $15 before tips, either...

Of course, they would rather die than admit the truth.

they already are, the bartenders and wait staff complained because they were used to making much more with tips. Ivar's had to throw in some revenue sharing to keep them from quitting. I am betting the increase in price is going to do Ivar's in. Who is going to pay $40 plus dollars for Halibut? Those are prices that the high end restaurants get and Ivar’s is not exactly a high end place it will be interesting to see how Ivar's is doing with its new price and wage structure in 3 months.

One of MY basic laws of economics was taught to me by my grandmother. She said that you cannot get something for nothing. Liberals are hell bent on proving her wrong, but they always fail. Miserably.

I worked as a cocktail waitress and then bartender for many years. Usually made minimum wage or above as a bartender but I was always rolling in the dough because of my tips.
Haaaaaaaaaarrrrrrr! You can’t have both.

This breaks my heart. I'm a huge tipper, because I love great service.

Now, if I eat in Seattle, I'll put down "Sawant" in the tip line and give her office phone #. Beside it, I'll put what I WOULD have given.

At least Ivar's has the balls to say "no tipping".
