Wisconsin, Kentucky governors make friendly wager: Cheese, sausage & root beer vs. bourbon

MADISON (WITI) — Governors Scott Walker and Steve Beshear offered up a friendly wager on Friday, April 3rd in anticipation of the NCAA Final Four men’s basketball game on Saturday.

Governor Walker bet an assortment of Wisconsin cheese and sausage, and root beer, that the Wisconsin Badgers will win, while Governor Beshear wagered Kentucky bourbon for a University of Kentucky Wildcats victory.

In a news release, Gov. Walker said the following:

“The Badgers have had an incredible season thus far and have represented Wisconsin admirably both on and off the court. As we face the Kentucky Wildcats in the Final Four for the second year in a row, this game certainly won’t be a ‘slam dunk,’ but under the leadership of Coach Ryan and the talent and teamwork of the players, the Badgers have what it takes to go all the way. This Saturday, I look forward to joining fans across the state and nation in cheering our team on to victory. On Wisconsin!”

The Badgers tip off against the Wildcats this Saturday, April 4, at 7:49 p.m. at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

“....The winner of that battle will play the victor of Saturday’s second Final Four game between Michigan State and Duke.

President Obama, an avid hoops fan, picked Kentucky as the eventual championship team in his annual predictions bracket.”

Walker should have offered a case of PBR against some Ten High.

Michigan State is 1 and 3 against Duke in Tournament history, and 2 and 9 overall against Duke, so I'm hoping we can make it 3 and 9.

Notre Dame showed that Kentucky isn't unbeatable.

Scott Walker has proven he knows how to get the best of any negotiations and can therefore be trusted to handle foreign policy.

"Notre Dame showed that Kentucky isn't unbeatable."

And yet they lost anyway.

You are right there. No amount of Wisconsin cheese can compare to a fifth of good Kentucky bourbon. Heck it would have to be one heck of a cheese to compare to a poor fifth!

Russian brewer Oasis Beverages just shelled out a heady sum for Pabst Brewing, the Milwaukee operation behind Old Milwaukee, Schlitz, Colt 45, and the suds hipsters and ski bums call “peee-brrrr.” The sum represents a staggering profit for C. Dean Metropoulos, the investment firm that bought Pabst in 2010 for just $250 million.

Pabst isn’t great beer, and it isn’t terrible. On Beer Advocate, which crowdsources reviews, PBR scores a 68 out of 100, edging out Budweiser (56) and Miller Light (53). Tasting decent helps, as does being cheap. But Pabst’s success to date is almost entirely a marketing story—even stretching all the way back into the 19th century.

While PBR isn’t great beer, Budweiser isn’t beer. I won’t drink either one. But I will drink an Old Style.

And Ten-High isn’t bourbon, either.

And yet they lost anyway.

By two points. We'll see how Kentucky goes against another number one seed. But if I were in on the bet, I'd rather have the bourbon any day of the week.

How does Wisconsin or Switzerland do in making Bourbon?

Get over it? I hate both Kentucky and Wisconsin. Too bad they can’t both lose.

Now I double down. Get over it. Funny how every sports pundit keeps coming up with some way so and so can beat Kentucky and yet it don’t happen. What did Kentucky do? State that they wouldn’t play at a Gay wedding?

What’s wrong with Wisc?

What’s wrong with Wisc?

The last time we met in the Big Ten Tourney they beat us (us being MSU) in overtime, and we didn't even score a freakin' point during the overtime period.

My dad was born and raised in Beech Creek, KY, so I have nothing against the state. Just the basketball team and some of their fans' attitudes.
