Walmart Declines to Say What Part of Arkansas Religious Freedom Bill It Doesn't Support
Christian Post ^ | 04/02/2015 | Michael Gryboski

The major retail chain Walmart has declined to say what specific part of the state's controversial religious freedom bill it opposes.

Walmart CEO Doug McMillon released a statement Tuesday denouncing the Arkansas legislature's passage of House Bill 1228, which he claimed was anti-gay.

"Today's passage of HB1228 threatens to undermine the spirit of inclusion present throughout the state of Arkansas and does not reflect the values we proudly uphold," stated McMillon.

"For these reasons, we are asking Governor [Asa] Hutchinson to veto this legislation."

The Christian Post reached out to Walmart for further comment on the reasons for this opposition, as well as their opinion on similar legislation elsewhere in the United States.

In the initial query, CP asked what specific part or quote from HB 1228 that Walmart found reprehensible.

A Walmart spokesperson returned comment, directing CP to the McMillon statement and providing a statement regarding the matter as it may pertain to other states.

"Every day, in our stores, we see firsthand the benefits diversity and inclusion have on our associates, customers and communities we serve. It all starts with the core basic belief of respect for the individual," stated the spokesperson.

"While this type of legislation will not change how we treat our associates and operate our business, we feel these bills are counter to this core basic belief."

When asked again by CP to explain what specific part of HB 1228 prompted the concern by Walmart, the spokesperson responded that "I don't really have anything beyond the two statements. If we update, I'll send that along."

Filed in February and passed by the legislature earlier this week, HB 1228 calls for Arkansas to enact the Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

So Walmart demands “respect for the individual” unless they are Christian.

Typical “Naysayer” behavior—Criticize, but don’t provide specifics.

The radicals will not be happy until EVERY income-producing, job-producing, TAXPAYING entity goes down in flames. Remember a Wal-Mart pharmacist being fired over not wanting to dispense ‘Day After’ abortion pills a number of years back?

The Leftists are convinced that government money, which they love to redistribute, just magically appears out of thin air!

The only thing holding us back from full-on Socialism is that they haven’t run out of ‘other peoples money.’ Yet!

It’s Blackmail. Plain and simple.

All I have to say is, if Walmart and other businesses want to abandon the majority of their customers in favor of a minority of perverts and sodomites, they should talk to JC Penney and find out how well that strategy worked for them.

Wal Mart does for Wal Mart. That is all.
They typically pay their vendors in 180 days, yet now want more price concessions since their business is falling away.

Yep...if the governor had any balls he would demand an explanation of why a private company is attempting to interfere in the legislative process, and short of a reasonable explanation revoke Walmart’s business licenses in the state!

It’s good to know which companies to NOT support anymore.

Earth to CEOs:

You’re there to provide products that we want at a price we’re willing to pay whilst making a profit for your stockholders.

I don’t see any references to gay or any or any other sexual preference in your stock portfolios.

So, STFU, and sell good stuff.

As for the gays...get a room, STFU, and maybe, just maybe, your perceived problems will disappear. Remember, we really don’t give a smelly Obama what you do with your Obamahole.

I thought lefties hate the idea the corporations are covered under the right to freedom of speech. When it comes to campaign finance contributions they screech “Corporations are not people!”. But then Apple, Walmart, and Angie’s List voice politically correct lefty talking points and it’s suddenly a-okay.

I will pay more not to patronize China-mart if at all possible. They should have remained neutral and not said a word.

...”Yep...if the governor had any balls he would demand an explanation of why a private company is attempting to interfere in the legislative process, and short of a reasonable explanation revoke Walmart’s business licenses in the state!”...

And, individuals should seriously look at these corporations and decide whether getting those groceries or items at places like Walmart a little cheaper is worth overlooking Walmart’s support of those who want to take away our basic rights to our faith.

When are major corporations, celebrities, et al going to learn?
Sell your product... sing your song... act in your movies... and shut up.
No matter what you say, you are going to ‘offend™’ someone. Just don’t say anything at all.

Funny how everyone criticizes the fact that Russian’s wealthy oligarchs cooperate with the regime to promote a specific political agenda.

Doesn’t the same thing happen here in the USA?

Walmart is not supporting the Arkansas bill for one reason: money. There was a LOT of fear at Walmart's corporate offices if the bill went into law, it would have resulted in a nationwide boycott of Walmart, a boycott that could make the situation in Indiana seem like a minor event in comparison.
