The “prebate” is there to deal with issue of the Fair Tax being “regressive” at least in the minds of “Progressives.”

I would prefer it not to be there, and for the tax to be lower, but at least everybody get it.

Having everyone get checks from the government is a very major design flaw. That should be the last thing any conservative should want.

The reason they want a VAT is because the tax is largely hidden FRom the taxpayer, and VAT is a HUGE cash cow for governments!

HST, you are correct in the respect that they want both VAT and income tax.

The FairTax does not require repeal of the 16th Amendment - it calls for the 16th to be repealed. FairTax legislation cannot do that, but it does abolish the income tax and repeal the Internal Revenue Code. It also defunds the IRS two years after FairTax become law.

H.J.Res.16, introduced by Rep. Steve King, (IA-5) repeals the 16th Amendment.

The “Prebate” ensures that all necessities of life are tax FRee, based on family size.

HST, I, too, would prefer a lower rate and no prebate.

“. . . And the “Fairtax” . . . still gives handouts to those who never paid any taxes.”

Well, in a word, “NO!”

Under FairTax, EVERY consumer will pay federal taxes. That is a key feature of the FairTax.
