ARLINGTON, Va. (NewsChannel 8) – One of the most successful and recognizable singers in music history has found a higher calling.

Rock icon Stevie Nicks has devoted countless hours visiting and helping wounded warriors and their families heal—both physically and emotionally.

“I am more proud of this than Fleetwood Mac or any of the other things I’ve done,” she said.

Nicks, the Grammy-award winning singer and star of Fleetwood Mac, was in the Washington area Tuesday, receiving an award for her profound and passionate work with the USO.

She buys hundreds, probably by now thousands, of Ipods and works up a collection of music. Then she makes the rounds, asking each patient if she can sit on his or her bed, she talks to each one of them, gives them the Ipod and music, and moves on to the next one. Sometimes it will go on all day and all night. I forget how often she does this, but it is many times a year.

The ones that impress me are the guys that spend some time handing out wheel chairs at the main entrance. Just servicemen giving to servicemen, and those that help vets figure out the darn paperwork.

Celebrities? Not so much.

Paper pushers that understand the VA system are much more impressive, if under-rated. I speak from experience as a vet that has used that assistance.

Honestly, I never cared for her singing..or FM’s music (most especially after the Clinto inauguration..made me sick.).

But if they can lend their famous names for a good cause and do some good; that makes me happy.

I’ve only been to the Dayton air museum once or twice. One of the things I remember was the hallway exhibit dedicated to Bob Hope and all he did to bring some joy and a taste of home to our troops via the USO tours. There are a lot that still do but it sure would be nice to see more big names really sign on and get the publicity and spirit of the old days back.. *sigh*

I really hope the Holy Spirit moves Stevie’s heart. Her song “Sara” from the “Tusk” album is about the aborted child of hers and Don Henley....clearly she knows right and wrong.

And her efforts here are laudable. Hopefully this will help her awaken to the truth.

May she truly find Jesus.

Ah, gee, I never knew that about her.

Now, I will be unable to ever listen to a song of hers again without it being tainted by the thoughts of her murdered child.

I had no idea of that. Guess I shouldn’t be surprised.

Thanks you for posting this..nice way to start the day...what’s remarkable is that she’s done this for years..without a publicist trailing behind her taking pictures..the interview was sincere, heartfelt..I wish the guy had asked her what first made her start visiting WR...there has to be some initial factor

Saw FM in Ottawa in October.
To me worth every one of the considerable amount of pennies I had to spend for a 3rd row floor seat.

Saw them in Phoenix, where Stevie is from, and loved it. I don’t go to many live shows, but this was special. AND Christine was great.

May she truly find Jesus.

"When do it for the least of these you do it for me."

So, maybe through her acts of mercy she is finding Him.
