Be excellent to know just what they could actually detect with the things. After all these years, how classified could it be?
Funny, recall walking by F-4s with the radome swung open many times. Never saw anything in that little pod on the bottom. Then again, being a 19 year old kid with no technical curiosity, no surprise. Sure think if there was some IR wizardry in there, something would have been noticeable. Empty as far as I can recall.
Maybe some great idea someone had that never panned out and they never changed the radome design? The RF-4C just had a camera window there.
