The mother of murdered British student Meredith Kercher said she was surprised and very shocked by an Italian courts decision to overturn the convictions of Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito.
Ms Kercher, 21, from Coulsdon, Surrey, was sexually assaulted and stabbed to death in her bedroom in 2007 while studying in Perugia, Italy.

Francesco Maresca, the lawyer for the Kercher family, was also disappointed by the ruling, saying: I think that its a defeat for the Italian justice system.
On Friday night the long-running case appeared to have been brought to a conclusion after more than seven years of twists, turns and retrials. But it was not the conclusion the Kercher family would have wished for or expected.
When Meredith Kerchers family first heard the news last year that Knox and her former boyfriend Sollecito had had their convictions for the Britons murder reinstated, they looked ahead to the day when the verdict might be made final by Italys highest court.
Nothing, of course, will ever bring Meredith back, her brother Lyle said at the time. The best we can hope for is, of course, finally bringing this whole case to a conclusion, and then everyone can move on with their lives.

An earlier verdict by the court of cassation, which found Rudy Guede, an Ivorian, definitively guilty of Kerchers murder, specified that the murder could not have been carried out by him alone, and that he must have had accomplices.
How, therefore, the only other people who have ever been seriously considered suspects in the case are now to walk free for good as a result of the same court is likely to be a bitter pill for the family to swallow.

The prosecutor was a dirty old man pervert who projected all his proclivities onto two young kids.
Some people have a problem with our court system in the USA, but I don’t trust the court systems in any other country in the world and would not want to put an American’s fate in any other country’s hands (although I know it’s going to happen to people). I would say that no American can be tried by any other court system in the world, but has to be tried in an American court, being conducted in America. It won’t happen, but that’s the way it should be!
Thank you for the ping (from the other thread). The poor family, their innocent daughter Meredith murdered.
Agreed. And apparently, the Kercher family sees it that way, too.
It’s a very sad case, and now this poor family won’t see justice in the name of their daughter.
My condolences, once again, to the Kercher family.
Their nightmare will never end.
Never read so much bull in my life. And you wonder why Americans have a reputation for arrogance worldwide.
Firstly, your legal system is as much as a joke as any. OJ, Casey Anthony, god knows how many unjust and farcical American cases. Frnakly, I wouldn’t want a British person or Irish person having their fate decided in an American court.
(does that offend and annoy you?.)
Secondly, you seriously suggesting you wouldn’t be happy with the British, Irish, Canadian, Aussie, Kiwi, Norwegian, Danish, French, western European legal systems?. Yeah, those horrible Scottish, Irish, Belgian and Dutch legal systems, eh?. So famous for railroading Americans.
You seriously suggesting any American who commits crime outside the US should only be tried by an American court?. Good grief.
