The Senator from Arizona, in a storm on the existing elites, focused on bringing back America as it once was. People forget, that before there was John McCain, there was Barry Goldwater representing Arizona, and his “cowboy” persona stood tall and swept the Republican party in the run-up to the 1964 election. But JFK pulled off a huge coup by getting himself assassinated, and it was frankly impossible for Goldwater to run against a ghost. The image of the little girl picking daisies who was annihilated by the burst of a nuclear weapon, and the drumbeat of “Scary Barry”, while not permanently damaging in and of themselves, only built upon the sainthood that had been conferred on JFK after Dallas.
McCain said that he would support Cruz if he is nominated. That is better than what I thought he would say.
