I think Obama can declare the ambassador “personna non grata” which means he has to leave the country. This would be an unprecedented move against an allied nation.

Yeah, any country can demand that another country’s Ambassador leave. No country is forced to allow any kind of particular person ... even if that person is the King of the country, or President of that country or Prime Minister of that country.
Unlike Obama, Ambassador Dermer is a natural born American Citizen, he was born in Florida and grew up there, and received his degree from the Wharton School of Business in Pennsylvania. Both of his parents were US Citizens.

Yea, it’s typically reserved for people that are caught spying or otherwise breaking the law, so usually not an allied nation.
Doing it here would be unbelievable - which is partly why he hasn’t done it, yet.
