Answer: Race-based slavery is quite a recent phenomenon. Less than five centuries old at most. Through all previous human history, slaves and master came in all shades.
If you consider serfs to be slaves, which is at minimum very near the case, then 23M white Russian slaves weren’t freed till 1861. Or about 6x the number freed during and after our Civil War.
This is like Angelina Jolie trying to get involved with global politics...people need to stick to what they know. I’m willing to give Mr. Schultz the benefit of the doubt on this one, yes there’s blatant hypocrisy in what he’s doing, but my guess is either he didn’t run this by his people first, thus resulting in such an epic blunder...or somebody got fired for suggesting that baristas should actually be responsible for striking up a conversation on race relations with a total stranger.

Here in the Peoples Republic of Washington State Shultz is exalted for his uber liberal business model. He has started to believe his own press and clearly suffers from the same kind of omnipotent delusions the kenyan does.
Baristas may be trying to identify conservatives. They think conservatives need to be “enlightened” so that everyone is on the same page

At one time there was a bit of skill in pulling a good espresso shot, but now the machines are 100% automated. The “barista” turns a knob selecting what and how much comes out and then pushes the “Start” button. Less skill than working one of those automated coffee vending machines that always requires a timely kick to dislodge the paper cup stuck in the shoot before the coffee comes squirting out.
Even worse from a coffee lover’s perspective is that no one ever seems to calibrate these auto espresso machines and they produce utter crap, which apparently, the customers can’t tell the difference anyway.

That selling more coffee, perhaps, than anyone else on the planet, may well demonstrate impressive business acumen, is conceded. Nothing in that fact translates into an expert on inter-group relations. The arrogance of imagining otherwise, of course, is something to behold. Were I a Starbucks shareholder, I would be livid. Not being such, I am only amused at what will end up being a very expensive mistake.
