Oregon governor signs sweeping automatic voter registration into law

PORTLAND, Ore. (Reuters) - Sweeping first-in-the nation legislation making voter registration automatic in Oregon was signed into law on Monday by Governor Kate Brown, potentially adding 300,000 new voters to state rolls.

The so-called Motor Voter legislation will use state Department of Motor Vehicles data to automatically register eligible voters whose information is contained in the DMV system, with a 21-day opt-out period for those who wish to be taken off the registry.

Supporters say the legislation's goal is to keep young voters, students and working families who move often from losing their right to vote. Republican lawmakers, who unanimously voted against the bill, complain it puts Oregonians' privacy at risk.

"I challenge every other state in this nation to examine their policies and to find ways to ensure there are as few barriers as possible for citizens' right to vote," said Brown, a Democrat who took office last month after John Kitzhaber stepped down amid an ethics scandal.

The current legislation, which Brown had pushed for as secretary of state, goes further than a 1993 federal motor voter law that required states to make voter registration available for people getting or renewing a driver's license.

Under the state law, the Oregon Secretary of State will use the DMV data, which includes information on whether a person is a citizen, to register voters, who would then be sent a postcard with information on how to opt out of registration altogether.

The postcard will also instruct voters on how to choose a political party, and those who do not choose will be registered as unaffiliated under the law.

As soon as the country wakes up and appoints me Emperor for Life, I will fix all of this.

It is perfectly simple: one form for everything - registering, voting, your address, etc. Of course the other side of the form will say, “1040.”

You’re not filing a tax return?

You ain’t voting neither.

This country was founded on the principal of, “you don’t work, you don’t eat.”

I will update that to, “you don’t pay, you don’t say.”

This is why the Framers created the Electoral College.

I have a lot of family in the Portland area. My uncle Jack tells me about how the loonies took over a once great state.

The late talk show host Ray Briem called motor voter “auto fraudo.” He was right.

This is a health issue. How many Democrat poll workers have come down with severe respiratory conditions, tromping thru overgrown cemeteries, in the rain, to gather Democrat absentee ballots?

Crap like this horsesh*t is one of the reasons why our “elections” are a great big flippin’ joke.

The lefty media uses the terms “sweeping” and “landmark” whenever the commies screw us. They used to use “broad,” but the feminists made them purge it.

Your uncle Jack is spot on.

I was born and raised in Oregon. It was a wonderful place to grow up and live.

Good folks still live there, but they have been out numbered for decades.

“The postcard will also instruct voters on how to choose a political party”

THAT should be interesting to see - how they “push” the useful idiots to choose the demoncrat party. Nothing surprises me anymore from these clowns.

I lived in Oregon I don’t think they have had a honest election in the last 15 years at least since they started to do there voting by mail only.

This isn’t that big of an voter fraud issue, most of the fraud gets built into the voter rolls before you even get to this point.

Rotten Democrats in PA are trying to do the same thing, but it’s even broader than driver license roles.

I actually believe since jimmy carter was elected in the seventies are voting has slowly been corrupted by more and more illegal false voting for democrats. I think if there were honest election that except for California ,Massachutes and new York that most states would have there democrats voted out of office.
