The author (and much of the country) seems to think this country is a democracy. He needs to be reminded this this is a Republic and that power belongs in the hands of the states and the people. But then, these jerks do their best to rewrite history.
To rid social intercourse of prejudice and violence the state becomes the sole source of prejudice and violence. By turning the entire population against the state the people are united in a singular objective to rid themselves of their oppressor.
A good place to start would be an accurate telling of recent history. There's so much of history that has been ignored/obfuscated, and an enterprising person with skills in movie making/video editing could change this. There have been a ton of films on WWII, Hitler, and Fascism, but I've see little about Stalin, the purges, the gulags, communism's trail of death, etc. It's well past the time to fix this, and Hollywood isn't required anymore.
Indeed, nor the fact that the "working" people are getting damn tired of supporting the entitlement class (which includes the politicians and their lackeys) as they sit on their collective asses complaining about social "justice".
That the author of the book & the writer of this article see OWS as anything other than a smelly joke is indicative of how far from any real solution the left has moved.
The true challenge to the oligarchy is coming from the Tea Party, that is where today's battles are being fought.
"It is not the critic who counts . . . the credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena - From Theodore Roosevelt's 1910 speech at the Sorbonne:That is the opposite of cynicism - and it is also the opposite of modern so-called liberalism. What is the opposite of giving credit to the man in the arena? It is something the writer of this article would agree with heartily:
You didnt build that. It is the arbitrary dismissal of the possibility of deserving credit for working to a bottom line.
The country thus far has been spared from outright socialism by the fact that - as the pull-quote suggests - leftists instilling of cynicism in its students can easily result in cynicism about voting as well.
>>The Left dominates EVERY major societal and governmental institution. Still, they will never be satisfied.
How did it get this way?! What have we been doing wrong? Nobody here has the cojones to tackle these questions. All I hear of FR is kvetching and carping about leftist intellectual and moral corruption. Well, ding dang, people, how the sam hell did that corruption and cognitive torpor turn us into an oppressed minority? Or is it WE who should bear that stigma? SMARTER...FASTER.
