Progressive/liberal values may have something to do with it.

The tone of this whole article reminds me of a joke my uncle once pulled on me.

He said "I'm going to have to put this dog to sleep. It's turned mean. Every time I kick it, it tries to bite me!"

Perfect.

The “mean” dog analogy is execellent.

The problem isn’t just Progressive/Liberal values; it’s how those values are being rammed down peoples’ throats.

The Progs/Dems have, thinking they passed the electoral tipping point (”40 More Years” by Snakehead Carville ring a bell?), overextended themselves.

IOW, since they won’t lose elections anymore, it’s safe for them to go full steam ahead on their actual, full, social agenda. Which runs contrary to the beliefs and desires of a lot of folks who voted them into power.

Those folks are now rebelling. While that rebellion has produced historic GOP wins in the House and Senate, it remains to be seen to what effect it has on Presidential elections, given the overwhelming lock the Dems have on 240 so electoral votes.
