It came by surprise and the incumbents opponent failed to seize the moment. On Saturday night, at the conclusion of an interview with Isaac Herzog on Channel 2′s Meet the Press program, the host brought on Benjamin Netanyahu for a rare and impromptu three minute debate.
Netanyahu, who was interviewed in a live feed from his office immediately after Herzog, was asked by host Rina Matzliach if he had any questions for Herzog, who was in the studio, before his interview began.
Netanyahu took the bat and criticized Herzog and Tzipi Livni for criticizing the government on the world stage on issues such as the Iranian nuclear threat as well as Israels building rights in Jerusalem. Why did they [Herzog and Tzipi Livni] condemn the construction in Jerusalem? Why dont they offer support when I am fighting to remove threats like the Iranian nuclear weapons? Why do they refuse to say they stand behind the immense security effort we are undertaking?
Herzog responded that it was not the prime ministers stances that he opposed, but his approach. The security of Israel is dear to us more than anything else, he said. We know how to care for it and I will care for it.
Herzog then turned to Netanyahu and asked whether he was willing to accept the principle whereby the leader of the largest party will form the government, but Netanyahu ignored the question, instead pushing with previous point. Just a few months ago we built in the Jewish neighborhoods in Jerusalem, and he and Tzipi Livni criticized [it.] If Jews have no right to build in Jerusalem, where do they have a right to do so? he asked.
When the prime minister warned that Herzog may divide Jerusalem, Herzog said, It is Netanyahu who is bringing Jerusalem into the debate, when no one is talking about dividing it. Every election he does this, giving rise to unnecessary international chatter (on the issue).
The Zionist Union leader then made an irreparable gaffe by pledging to keep Netanyahu united, while intending to say Jerusalem.
Netanyahu responded that Herzog and Livni would capitulate to any dictates of the international community. They cant stand up to them. He says he cares for Israels security but when he faces the test, the prime minister must say a simple word: no.
On Twitter, the prime minister capitalized on Herzogs gaffe. Reminder to Herzog: no need to keep Netanyahu united, we need to keep Jerusalem united, Netanyahu tweeted.
I am on Israels’ side. I think Netanyahu is the only true leader for Israel at this time.
Go Bibi!
prayers up for another Bibi victory somehow or other.
God will select the leader who best serves His plan.
The true followers of bibi will run to the mountains with him when prophecy is fulfilled
I really hope Bibi wins despite the activists led by 0 and his regime to unseat Bibi, it would be huge loss for them.
God will select the leader who best serves His plan.

As a pro-Israel believer, I believe that but I believe that God-fearing people can stay the hand of God, and His judgment, if they rise up, in faith, and do their part at the ballot box. (Faith without works is dead.” James Chapter 2). So, let’s see if God is as pissed at Israel as he was at the U.S. during our last two Presidential Elections.
If Obama, his minions,, his ilk are against BiBi and trying to undermine BiBi’s reelection in Israel then I am all for BiBi’s win in Israel.
If they are all against BiBi that’s all the reason why we should pray and be for BiBi and Israel.
So much for political free speech. If BiBi had been able to handle dissent in a legitimate way, he would have kept his coalition together and remained PM for another two years without question.
I just don't understand how or why he could bring this on himself.
Agreed

willing to accept the principle whereby the leader of the largest party will form the government. Good grief, November 2014 Zionist Union didn't even exist. I'll speculate that if they lose this election, they won't exist in the same structure. When parties come and go every few years, in this case months, that would be a foolish "agreement" leading only to more "new" combined parties.
This gaffe is trivial. Bibi is on the ropes and likely to go down. We will later find out that Obama and Soros spent over $20 million, including $5 million — illegally — of State Dept. funds. But the Senate will do nothing about it.
Where does it say it is illegal to use State Dept. funds to influence the outcome of an election or regime change in another country to further US interests? I think it is the prerogative of the Executive Branch, and has been exercised by numerous Presidents before, and in far more nefarious ways...
