U.S. officials said Sunday they will halt operations at the embassy and consulates in Saudi Arabia for the next couple of days, in response to “heightened security concerns.”

Embassy officials in Riyadh issued the statement, saying telephone lines at the facilities will be down Sunday and Monday and encouraging U.S. citizens in Saudi Arabia to “be aware of their surroundings and take extra precautions when travelling throughout the country.”

The message did not cite a specific security concern or threat nor call for the evacuation of the facilities.

However, an intelligence source told Fox News that the threat is serious enough that the facilities will have only essential staff over the next two days.

(Bloomberg) — The U.S. Embassy in Riyadh canceled all consular services Sunday and Monday in the Saudi capital, as well as in Jeddah and Dhahran, amid heightened security concerns.

The announcement followed a warning it issued Friday that U.S. oil workers operating in the eastern province of Saudi Arabia may be targets for kidnapping or other attacks.

The embassy “has information stating that, as of early March, individuals associated with a terrorist organization could be targeting Western oil workers,” including Americans, it said.

Looks like ISIS is getting ready to carry out attacks in Riyadh.

Don’t worry, John Kerry and Marie Harf are on the job.

Real threat or a message to the Saudi royals that Obama is not pleased with the statements of concern about any deal with Iran or a proposed nuclear cooperation deal between South Korea and Saudi Arabia?

Shutting down the phone lines and closing the Embassy for “2” days ?

What the hell is that supposed to accomplish?

Oh , I forgot this is a John Kerry operation.

The US diplomatic mission in Saudi Arabia said that the United States is planning to shut down its Saudi embassy in Riyadh and two consulates general for the next two days.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The United States is planning to shut down its Saudi embassy in Riyadh and two consulates general for the next two days over security concerns, the US diplomatic mission in Saudi Arabia said Sunday.

A statement issued by the embassy said that, “Due to heightened security concerns at U.S. diplomatic facilities in Saudi Arabia, the U.S. Embassy and Consulates have cancelled all consular services in Riyadh, Jeddah and Dhahran for Sunday, March 15 and Monday, March 16, 2015.”

The embassy also said that telephone lines will be down for a couple of days, and encouraged US nationals to “be aware of their surroundings, and take extra precautions when travelling throughout the country.”

Interesting, shutting off the phone for two days and then everything will be OK?

It’s idiotic.

The US is basically being run by the Iranians at this point through Jarrett, this may well be the opening salvo from President Hussein in a take down of the Saudis.

“Marie Harf”

I’m sorry, but that woman looks like a barely competent kindergarten teacher.

And as someone said, between her and Psaki, Harf is the smart one.

I just hope our next president a. loves America b. has a brain

Let's get our people out now. But I wouldn't mind watching the place get ravaged...then nuked.

That the US State Dept continues to put out Harf and Psaki as spokespersons is indicative of clear desire to not be taken seriously by our enemies.

Apparently we are getting most of our people out of the embassy for 2 days, only essential personnel (The Ambassador and the Marines) will be there.

But after 2 days, everything will be OK because the ragheads will have forgotten where the Embassy is!

By the time Obama is booted out every country in the middle east will be under ISIS or Iranian control.

Instantly reminds me of The Siege of Mecca, a very good book about the dynamics of in Saudi Arabia and the little heard of uprising that led to more recent events.

Times are different with regards to communication, but other things aren't so different.

Saudi Arabia instantly cut international phone communications, closed the borders. And the first news of something going wrong in Mecca came out in a press statement at the State Department in Washington, infuriating the Saudis who had hoped that the blackout of this news would last long enough for them to take control of the mosque again.
