That’s exactly what I was thinking. The first 100 words are fighting with each other. I was mentally comparing her stuff to the big guns — Steyn, Coulter, Hanson, etc.) — and she’s just lame.
And I thought this was one of her better efforts — a vigorous attempt to rise out of the tea cozy school of writing and up to the cracker barrel level.
Her work has been consistently insipid, maudlin, hackneyed, tedious, unfocused, eighth-grade; all indications of a writer who was good to her mother.
Likely a fine human being, but that doesn’t redeem her writing, any more than her middle name does.
